About 13th St Cat Rescue

– If you’ve been my
Facebook friend for more than the last year, then you’ve heard of 13th
Street Cat Rescue, before. But, just in case you
don’t know who they are, I just wanted to tell you
a little bit about them. Because, they are a very small, all volunteer run
organization, right here, in San Jose, California. And so, a couple of details about them is; number one, they’re all volunteer run. I’ve got to say when JoAnne,
who runs the organization, came to my house for the
process of me adopting Frank, I was so surprised ’cause
she came in her nurse scrubs, because she’s got another full-time job, and she just does this out
of the goodness of her heart and her passion for helping animals. So, and of course she has a
team that helps her, as well. So, number one, they’re all volunteer run. They’re local, they’re
right here in San Jose. They do lots of great programs. So, they do TNR which is trap and release. So, getting the feral cats
and spaying and neutering them so that they don’t make
more stray cats out there. They do help the feral cat colonies. And of course, they do adoptions. And they do weekend adoption fairs at the PetSmart over there on Coleman. So, they do so many
different ways to help cats in our community. A couple of the details
about their financials; so, it takes around 130
thousand dollars a year to run 13th Street Cat Rescue. And of that 130 thousand, 105 thousand of those
dollars go just to vet bills. So, I think that not just
for them as a rescue, but for many rescues
that’s one of the things that really takes a lot of their funds. And given this big expense that they have, how do they raise their money? Well, most of it comes from fundraisers, just like this one. So, just from fundraisers,
donations, gifts, grants, they raise around 105 thousand dollars. So, events like this,
fundraisers like this, are really important for them to be able to help as many cats as possible. And like well, who are
the cats that they help? Well, they help the little guy. So, they help cats, like my Frank, who was a senior and I
adopted him at 14 years old. Who probably wouldn’t
have made it if he was in like a kill shelter
’cause he was so old. It took just about two
years for me to find him, to adopt him. And they help other cats,
like Jack, who is blind, and so definitely has special needs. There’s another cat named
Chance, I love that name, who they found from a feral cat colony, who was limping around and
actually had a broken leg, that had never set properly, so it needed to have that leg amputated. So, another special needs cat. They help cats like Charlotte,
who is also a senior, who needs special health
food for her urinary tract. So, of course they help everyone. They help kittens,
regular age cats, seniors, but they definitely help the little guy. So, hopefully that helps you
understand a little bit more about why this organization is so worthy, and some of the details behind the amazing work that they do. Thank you 13th Street Cat Rescue, we really appreciate
all the hard work you do for the cats in our community.
