Simon’s Cat ‘Off to the Vet’ – A behind the scenes glimpse!

Hello I’m Simon and I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come on board so far, and backed our film ‘Simon’s Cat Off to
the Vet’. Today I want to show you a little bit the
pre-production work has gone into making the film so far. Well the first thing I do is take all the ideas that are in my head and
put them straight down onto paper in these sketchbooks. So Simon has got the cat now and he’s trying to put him inside the cat case. But the cat doesn’t like this idea at all – puts his paws up – stops himself going in. So Simon has put the case on its end, and tries to lower him in. But all four paws stick onto the side. And no matter how hard he pushes, the cat is not
going in. Well a storyboard is basically a sequence of drawings, which tells you exactly what’s gonna go
on in the action in the film. But for me personally, my films are based so much on observation, on all the
tiny little details, the little looks and the little blinks and way the tails move and everything,
that I tend to do maybe more drawings than most people. Well after we’ve got the storyboard
worked, the next stage is to make an animatic. And this is very exciting because for
the first time we can actually see the drawings start to move. And we use this to actually get the timings right for the
film. Well I hope you have enjoyed that little glimpse
behind-the-scenes I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our film ‘Off to the Vet’ so far.

  1. I love your videos so much!!! They are so true to how cats Act. It is really cool to see how its all done. Thanks for sharing 🙂 cant wait to see next Video 🙂

  2. Love Simon!  Thank you for showing how it really is.   Those of us who are owned by cats really do "get it"….LOL!  Well done!

  3. The storyboard for the cat going in the carrier made me laugh out loud.
Maybe you could also sell or do a drawing for original artwork. You could do requests and maybe pictures of other people's cats.

  4. We love your work and you are an inspiration to us who love animation and cats. Every week I hope with my sister and mom watch your videos, and we love them. Thank you very much!  Greetings from Mexico City 😀

  5. I cannot wait for off to the vet!  In the last month I had to take my cat to the vet four times!  He has a chronic auto immune disease that gives him a lot of pain in his mouth to the point that he can't eat….so for the last two years we have had to go to the vet once a month for a steroid shot.  He hates going to the vet and it is always a huge production….so I am really looking forward to watching how simon takes his cat to the vet!

Incidentally, two weeks ago all of his teeth were removed. This is known to almost cure the disease he has (stomatitis).  It is too early to tell, but I'm hoping it will help…so far he his doing pretty well.

  6. The worst bit about taking my cat to the vet is she hates going in the carrier and once she's at the vet she won't get out!

  7. LMAO My kitty does that and when I somehow get her inside anyway, she adds yowling to her verbal protest of hissing up the North Wind.

  8. I wish I could donate but parents say we can't spend money on this kind of thing. Sorry Simon! 😢

  9. About going to the vet.  Yes my cats go through all of their avoidance routines when I am at home trying to get them into the box.  Also as soon as I go for one of them, the alert goes out to the rest and they hide.  What always impressed me what that when we are at the vet 1) they do not want to come out of the carrier and 2) when the vet is finished they go into the carrier in a flash.  They are so anxious to get into the carrier at that point.  Very different behavior than when at home.

  10. I found what works best for me is chase the cat around the house until I corner her against the wall, then put the case on to her rather then try to put her into the case.

  11. How many frames do you all draw per second of action?  Do you draw every frame or do you use animation assistance programs?  What software do you use?

  12. OMG!! Putting the cat in the case lol reminds me of my cat last week, the scratches on my arms haven't healed yet :p

  13. I took my cat to the vet yesterday — he peed his pants. Of course he doesn't wear pants — he was so frightened that he was shaking. Poor baby, but it was his 1st yearly exam and he had to go.

  14. I love it.  The beginning is exactly how I work hard to get my Puddles into the cat carrier.  Also have to tell you how much I love "Simon's Cat".  Thank you !

  15. if you REALLY have that issue w/ getting a kitty in a carrier, I'm a 1st time kitty mama BUT I broke my Harry of that by throwing ALL his catniptoys in the back & propping it open w/ a soda bottle for a few days slowly he went for them & started going in more NOW if I let him he'll sleep in the carrier!

  16. Always leave your cat carrier out in the house where your cat can get to it. That makes it something that is familiar. Even put a cat bed in there and they can sleep in it. Don't ONLY bring it out when it is time to go to the scary vet. Also use Feliway a cat pheromone in the carrier to help with anxiety on the way to and from the vet.

  17. Thank you soooo much 🙂 i always wished that a vid like that would came up on your channel 🙂 I would love it to see more of that 🙂
    greeetings from germany 🙂

  18. Simon. It would be an honor to work with you. When kids was little I was into drawing people but got tired of that. So I went to drawing dogs, wolves, sometimes cats and ponies. I bet a fan would want to work with you anytime of day… Even though I'm pretty much new here, I would move mountains to work with you. (How DO Yoko supposed to move mountains?) I'm 11 btw.
